JEE Main 2022States of Matter Question with Solution

JEE Main 2022 (25 Jul Shift 1)

Question

The pressure of a moist gas at 27°C is 4 atm. The volume of the container is doubled at the same temperature. The new pressure of the moist gas is ×10-1 atm. (Nearest integer)
(Given: The vapour pressure of water at 27°C is 0.4 atm)

Correct answer
22

Step-by-step explanation

Dalton's Law states that the total pressure P of moist air is the sum of partial pressures of dry air Pa and water vapor PvP= Pa+Pv. Only the absolute pressure is the state parameter of moist air.

Pgas+PH2O=4

Pgas=4-0.4=3.6 atm

As volume is doubled, Pgasnew =1.8 atm

New Total Pressure =1.8+0.4=2.2 atm
