JEE Main 2023Mechanical Properties of Solids Question with Solution

JEE Main 2023 (01 Feb Shift 1)

Question

A certain pressure 'P' is applied to 1 litre of water and 2 litre of a liquid separately. Water gets compressed to 0.01% whereas the liquid gets compressed to 0.03%. The ratio of Bulk modulus of water to that of the liquid is 3x. The value of x is ______.

Correct answer
1

Step-by-step explanation

Bulk modulus is given by B=-ΔPΔVV

Now, in case of water,  Bwater=-ΔPΔVV=-ΔP0.01100

In case of liquid, Bliquid=-ΔP0.03100

Thus, the ratio BwaterBliquid=-ΔP0.0001-ΔP0.0003=3

Hence, the value of x=1.
