JEE Main 2021 (31 Aug Shift 1)

Question

A vertical pole fixed to the horizontal ground is divided in the ratio 3: 7 by a mark on it with lower part shorter than the upper part. If the two parts subtend equal angles at a point on the ground 18 m away from the base of the pole, then the height of the pole (in meters) is :

Correct answer
C1210

Step-by-step explanation

Given that

A vertical pole fixed to the horizontal ground is divided in the ratio 3: 7 by a mark on it with lower part shorter than the upper part. If the two parts subtend equal angles at a point on the ground 18 m away from the base of the pole.

tanθ=x6
tan2θ=10x18=5x9

We know that tan 2θ = 2 tan θ1 - tan2θ

5x9=x31-x236

  5=31-x236

1-x236=35

x236=25

  x2=725    x=625

From the figure ;

 Length of pole =10x=6025×55

=60105=1210m
