JEE Main 2024Ray Optics Question with Solution

JEE Main 2024 (27 Jan Shift 1)

Question

Two immiscible liquids of refractive indices 85 and 32 respectively are put in a beaker as shown in the figure. The height of each column is 6 cm. A coin is placed at the bottom of the beaker. For near normal vision, the apparent depth of the coin is α4 cm. The value of α is _______.

Enter your answer

Show full solutionCorrect answer: 31
Correct answer
31

Step-by-step explanation

The formula to calculate the apparent height of the coin when seen through the combination of liquids can be written as

happ=h1μ1+h2μ2   ...1

From equation (1), it follows that

happ=63/2+68/5 cm=4+154 cm=314 cm

Hence, α=31.
