JEE Main 2023Gravitation Question with Solution

JEE Main 2023 (24 Jan Shift 1)

Question

The weight of a body at the surface of earth is 18 N. The weight of the body at an altitude of 3200 km above the earth's surface is (given, radius of earth Re=6400 km)

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: D
Correct answer
D8 N

Step-by-step explanation

As height of the object is considerable compared to the radius of the earth, therefore approximation formula can not be used.

So weight at given height,

F=mg'=GMmR+R22=49GMmR2

mg'=49(mg)

=49×18

=8 N
