JEE Main 2015Electromagnetic Waves Question with Solution

JEE Main 2015 (11 Apr Online)

Question

For plane electromagnetic waves propagating in the +z-direction, which one of the following combinations gives the correct possible direction for E and B field respectively?

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: B
Correct answer
B-2i^-3j^ and 3i^-2j^

Step-by-step explanation

The direction of propagation of the electromagnetic waves is along E×B.

Also E·B=0

When E is along -2 i^-3 j^

And B is along 3 i^-2 j^

Then E×B=-2i^-3j^×3i^-2j^

=4 k^+9 k^

=13 k^ is along +ve direction also E·B=0
