JEE Main 2021Trigonometric Equations Question with Solution

JEE Main 2021 (25 Feb Shift 2)

Question

If 0<x,y<π and cosx+cosy-cosx+y=32, then sinx+cosy is equal to:

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: D
Correct answer
D1+32

Step-by-step explanation

cosx+cosy-cosx+y=32

2cosx+y2·cosx-y2-2cos2x+y2-1=32

2cosx+y2·cosx-y2-2cos2x+y2+1=32

2cosx+y2·cosx-y2-2cos2x+y2=12

4cosx+y2·cosx-y2-4cos2x+y2=1

4cosx+y2·cosx-y2-4cos2x+y2=1=sin2x-y2+cos2x-y2

4cos2x+y2+cos2x-y2-4cosx+y2·cosx-y2+sin2x-y2=0

2cosx+y2-cosx-y22+sin2x-y2=0

sinx-y2=0 and cosx+y2=12cosx-y2

x=y and cosx=12=cosy

 sinx=32

sinx+cosy=1+32

option 4
