JEE Main 2015Three Dimensional Geometry Question with Solution

JEE Main 2015 (10 Apr Online)

Question

If the points 1, 1, λ & (-3, 0, 1), are equidistant from the plane, 3x+4y-12z+13=0, then λ satisfies the equation:

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: C
Correct answer
C3x2-10x+7=0

Step-by-step explanation

1, 1, λ and -3, 0, 1 are equidistant from 3x+4y-12z+13=0 then

3+4-12λ+1332+42+122= -9+0-12+1332+42+122

20-12λ= -8

5-3λ = -2

25-30λ+9λ2=4

9λ2-30λ+21=0

3λ2-10λ+7=0
