JEE Main 2024Straight Lines Question with Solution

JEE Main 2024 (29 Jan Shift 1)

Question

In a ABC, suppose y=x is the equation of the bisector of the angle B and the equation of the side AC is 2x-y=2. If 2 AB=BC and the point A and B are respectively (4,6) and (α,β), then α+2β is equal to

Correct answer
B42

Step-by-step explanation

Given: Line AC: 2x-y=2 and BD: x=y.

Line AC and BD intersects at point D.

2x-x=2

x=y=2

D2,2

We know that, by angle bisector theorem, the angle bisector of a triangle divides the base in the same ratio as the other two sides.

CDAD=BCAB

It is given that, 2AB=BC.

CDAD=2ABAB

CD:AD=2:1

Let the coordinates of C be h,k.

By using section formula,

Dh×1+2×43,1×k+2×63=2,2

h+8=6, k+12=6

h=-2, k=-6

C-2,-6

Now, 2AB=BC

24-α2+6-β2=α+22+β+62

Also, B lines on x=y.

44-α2+6-α2=α+22+α+62

416+α2-8α+36+α2-12α=α2+4+4α+α2+36+12α

8α2-80α+208=2α2+16α+40

6α2-96α+168=0

α2-16α+28=0

α-14α-2=0

α=2,14

But, coordinates of B and D cannot be same.

α=β=14

α+2β=42
