JEE Main 2015Parabola Question with Solution

JEE Main 2015 (10 Apr Online)

Question

If the tangent to the conic, y-6=x2 at (2,10) touches the circle, x2+y2+8x-2y=k (for some fixed k) at a point α, β; then (α, β) is

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: B
Correct answer
B-817, 217

Step-by-step explanation

The equation of tangent (T=0) would be 12 y+10- 6=2x

4x-y+2=0

The center of the circle is (-4,1) and the point of contact would be the foot of perpendicular from (-4,1) on 4x-y+2=0

α+44=β-1-1= --16-1+242+12

α+44=1517 and β-1-1=1517

α= -817β= -1517+1=217

Hence option -817, 217 is correct.
