JEE Main 2021Functions Question with Solution

JEE Main 2021 (25 Feb Shift 1)

Question

Let f,g:NN such that fn+1=fn+f1  nN and g be any arbitrary function. Which of the following statements is NOT true?

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: B
Correct answer
BIf g is onto, then fog is one-one

Step-by-step explanation

fn+1-fn=f1

A.P. with common difference = f(1)

General term = Tn = f(1) + (n-1)f(1) = nf(1)

 fn=nf1f is one-one

Now, Let fgx2=fgx1

 gx2=gx1 (as f is one-one)

 x1=x2 (as fog is one-one)

 g is one-one

For f to be onto, f(n) should take all the values of natural numbers.

As f(x) is increasing, f(1)=1

f(n)=n

Now, fgn=gn f1

may be many-one if

gn is many-one

So “if g is onto, then fog is one-one” is incorrect.
