JEE Main 2019Binomial Theorem Question with Solution

JEE Main 2019 (10 Jan Shift 1)

Question

If i=120 20Ci-1 20Ci+20Ci-13=k21, then k equals

Choose an option

Correct answer
B100

Step-by-step explanation

Given i=120 20Ci-1 20Ci+ 20Ci-13=k21

We have  20Ci-1 20Ci+ 20Ci-1

Using Cr-1n+Crn=Crn+1, we get

 20Ci-1 20Ci+ 20Ci-1= 20Ci-1 21Ci

Now, using Crn=nr×Cr-1n-1, we get

 20Ci-1 21Ci=20Ci-121i×20Ci-1=i21

Hence, the given sum is

i=120i3213=1213i=120i3

Now, using r3r=1n=nn+122, we get

1213i=120i3=121320·2122=10021

Using the given sum, we get 10021=k21

k=100.
