JEE Main 2022Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry Question with Solution

JEE Main 2022 (29 Jul Shift 2)

Question

A 1.84mg sample of polyhydric alcoholic compound 'X' of molar mass 92.0 g/mol gave 1.344 mL of H2 gas at STP. The number of alcoholic hydrogen present in compound 'X' is

Correct answer
6

Step-by-step explanation

Number of moles of alcoholic compound =Given massMolar mass = 1.84×10-392.0 = 2×10-5 moles

Number of moles of hydrogen gas produced = Volume of gas at STP22400 ml = 1.34422400 = 6×10-5 moles

Monohydric alcohol will react with active metal to give 12 mole of hydrogen gas.

Since per mole of given alcohol is giving 3 moles of hydrogen gas.

So number of alcoholic hydrogen present in compound should be =6.
