JEE Main 2013 (22 Apr Online)

Question

For which of the following compounds Kjeldahl method can be used to determine the percentage of Nitrogen?

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: C
Correct answer
CAlanine

Step-by-step explanation

Kjeldahl's method is not applicable for compounds containing nitrogen in nitro and azo groups and nitrogen present in the ring. Because nitrogen of these compounds does not change to ammonium sulphate under these conditions. Hence only Alanine can be used to determine percentage of nitrogen.
