JEE Main 2017Coordination Compounds Question with Solution

JEE Main 2017 (02 Apr)

Question

On treatment of 100 mL of 0.1 M solution of CoCl3.6H2O with excess AgNO3; 1.2×1022 ions are precipitated. The complex is:

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: C
Correct answer
CCoH2O5ClCl2. H2O

Step-by-step explanation

Moles of CoCl3.6H2O=100×0.1×10-3=10-2mole

Moles of Cl- ions precipitated=1.2×10226×1023=2×10-2 mole

So, one mole of complex will release two moles of chloride ions so, formula of complex is

CoH2O5ClCl2. H2O
